Weierstraß-Prize for Excellence in Teaching

The Department of Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics annually awards the Weierstraß-Prize for excellent teaching.

The Department EIM awards the prize in remembrance of Karl Weierstraß (1815-1897). He was a prominent mathematician who received his Abitur as “primus omnium” at the Theodorianum in 1834 and later lectured at University Berlin. Members of the faculty award the prize in recognition of particular performance in teaching. The award was initiated on the suggestion of Prof. Dr. Joachim von zur Gathen. 

The Weierstraß-prize is awarded annually. Two prizes are awarded; one to a teacher and the other to an exercise group teacher. A jury carries out the determination of the award winners. The prizes contain a monetary bonus for the winners and are presented in the course of the annual academic celebration “Tag der Fakultät” (Day of the Faculty).
