Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics welcomes Prof. Dr. Heike Trautmann to Paderborn University

We are pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Heike Trautmann as a new professor at our faculty at Paderborn University from the winter semester 2023/24. With her broad range of experience and passion for innovative research, she brings a wealth of expertise and commitment to our academic community.

 
Her remarkable professional career has taken her from management consulting to doctoral studies and university teaching. Starting with a degree in business mathematics and statistics, she discovered her passion for computer science and optimizing algorithms. Her research interests focus in particular on topics such as evolutionary optimization, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Prof. Dr. Eric Bodden, Head of the Department of Computer Science, emphasizes: "Prof. Dr. Trautmann enriches our institute with her innovative research approaches and her inspiring personality. Her commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration is a significant contribution to the development of our academic community."

Her first encounter with the department was at a conference in Singapore, where she met colleagues from the field of computer science. These encounters shaped her entry into evolutionary optimization and laid the foundation for her current research in the field of trustworthy artificial intelligence.

Prof. Dr. Trautmann's research has applications in diverse areas of everyday life, from optimizing route plans for businesses to detecting disinformation campaigns on social networks such as Telegram. Through her work, she contributes to developing efficient solutions for real-world problems and positively influencing people's lives.

Prof. Dr. Trautmann describes her arrival at the University of Paderborn as very warm and she was well received by the academic community. She appreciates the diverse research opportunities and the supportive working environment, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

In her new position, Prof. Dr. Trautmann strives to further expand the field of trustworthy artificial intelligence and promote interdisciplinary collaborations. She is committed to strengthening international networking and collaboration in order to advance cutting-edge research and establish Paderborn University as a leading research location. Her commitment extends across various departments, building bridges between them and developing joint projects for innovative solutions.

Outside of her academic activities, Prof. Dr. Trautmann has a versatile personality. As a mother of two student children, she combines family responsibility with her passion for science and research. In addition to her academic career, she is an avid motorcyclist and enjoys reading, sports and traveling in her free time.

Despite living outside Paderborn, Prof. Dr. Trautmann recognizes the potential offered by the city and the research location. She sees particularly great potential for her work at Paderborn University and is looking forward to continuing her collaboration with colleagues and students.
