The Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr.-Ing. Christian Hedayat as an honorary professor. The appointment was made on the initiative of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and recognises his long-standing and close ties to Paderborn University, as well as his outstanding professional and academic achievements.
The certificate of appointment was presented to Dr Hedayat on 6 July 2026 by the dean of the faculty, Prof Dr Jürgen Klüners.
Dr Hedayat has been working for many years to foster close cooperation between the Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nanosystems ENAS and Paderborn University. At Fraunhofer ENAS, he heads the ‘Smart Wireless Systems’ department, which functions as the institute’s branch office in Paderborn. The department’s main areas of research include, amongst others, wireless sensor systems, wireless power transfer and near-field electromagnetic measurement techniques for EMC characterisation. Paderborn University is a key partner for both the department and the institute.
His academic and professional career uniquely combines research with industrial application. Christian Hedayat studied Physics at the Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis and obtained a diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1993, specialising in telecommunications and antenna technology. In 1998, he completed his PhD in collaboration with Texas Instruments France, focusing on the highly efficient and accurate modelling and simulation of high-frequency mixed-signal systems. Following his PhD, he initially worked as an analogue IC designer.
In 2004, Hedayat moved to Paderborn and began working at Paderborn University, already at that time within the framework of the collaboration with the Fraunhofer Society. Since 2008, he has held a senior position at the Paderborn branch of Fraunhofer ENAS. In this role, he has significantly strengthened the long-term collaboration with Paderborn University. This collaboration remains a cornerstone of his academic work to this day and is reflected in numerous jointly completed research projects and publications.
His appointment as an honorary professor now formally recognises this long-standing association at an institutional level. His extensive expertise at the interface of Electrical Engineering, systems design and wireless technologies, as well as his experience in both research and industrial applications, enrich the faculty in both research and teaching.
