Weierstraß-Prize for excellent teaching 2011

Prof. Dr. Reinhold Häb-Umbach, director of the field “Communication Engineering” at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology receives the Weierstraß-Prize, in recognition of his excellent lectures “Elemente digitaler Kommunikationssysteme” and “Nachrichtentechnik”, which were marked with best grades in their evaluations. In the lecture, which the students feel as “challenging”, his expertise, motivation and presentation style is highly approved. Without exception, all other facets of his teaching are also rated positively. He successfully manages the combination of theory, practice and activation of students. His students register, Prof. Häb-Umbach´s attendance towards his students and his ability to transfer complicated topics to perfect teaching, with high appreciation. The result of a seminar feedback: “Excellent presentation of an partly challenging topic.”

Barbara Wottawa receives the Weierstraß-Prize in recognition of her excellent teaching activity as a practice group leader in the courses “Mathematik für Wirtschaftswissenschaftler I, II and III”. The students thoroughly praise her outstanding motivation and accurate preparation, the good coordination of lecture and exercise, the successful realisation of the new face-to-face exercise concept, as well as the motivating working atmosphere. She is also praised for her graphical representations, descriptive sketches and memorable examples, as well as comprehensible, precise explanations – in short, the high didactical quality in her tutorials. Therefor, the student´s course feedback literally says:
“Mrs Wottowa is a excellent course leader. She accomplishes, to convey enjoyment for mathematical contents. She deserves the Weierstraß-Prize.”
